Workshops! Lots of great workshops. Lets meet the teams…
Stuff safely stored
UncategorizedThe problem with all this exciting construction and deconstruction is that it generates an awful lot of stuff (particularly bolts). As a floating ethereal collective, we didn’t have anywhere to keep any of it..!
Until know. Luckily for us Justin and the team at the Safestore in Kings Cross came to save the day, but kindly donating rental of a lovely unit for the Community Interest Cause! We can’t say thank you enough to them for giving us access. But we can try!

Thank you Safestore!
“Our future must be diverse”, says Steve
TeamSteve’s role as a RIBAJ Rising Star continues, as he penned a call to arms for the industry to be better at encouraging diversity. You can read all about it on the RIBA Journal website, here.
Here today, gone tomorrow
Next Generation DesignSadly all good things must come to an end and so that fate befell this year beautiful NGD London pavilion. There was hardly a dry eye in the park as the pavilion came down in one epic weekend. Big thanks to all the volunteers who turned up to help.
The great news is that all* the wood has gone to a good home: either to local community garden groups keen to upgrade their planters, or to City Wood Services, an excellent organisation who collect, reuse and resell salvaged trees and timber.
*Ropey ol’ plywood treads are hard to shift for any sort of valuable reuse, so unfortunately went to landfill courtesy of Islington Council. If anyone has any ideas for getting another life out of the stuff, we’d love to hear from you so we can avoid this next time!
Brum workshops this weekend!
EducationThat’s right, Next Generation Design has had enough of London and this weekend is rolling in to Birmingham at NEST. How exciting!

Well, Clancy that
ResearchAlthough it looks like Dan won something, he sort of didn’t. His long and arduous read Disassembling Detroit received the Clancy Prize Diploma “for papers of merit related to the understanding and practice of the whole life management of structures including surveys, investigations, strategic planning, testing and subsequent works to the structure.”

The actual Clancy Prize medal (medal>diploma) for properly special people, was this year awarded to Kalaichelvi Navaratnarajah, For his paper ‘Engineering towards a resilient world – managing client expectations’ published in April 2016.

Education, Next Generation DesignThe booklet is out and about!
The pavilion is open for business!
Education, Next Generation Design
After a final push by the whole team, through some miracle the pavilion was ready in time for opening today and even though we do say so ourselves, it looks pretty good!
Can’t say it enough times but thanks to everyone who’s supported us, all the volunteers that have given up countless hours and all the sponsors who make it possible.
Fortunately the pavilion is sticking around for a few more months so come down and check it out, walk over it and leave your message on one of the ribbons.
Meet the pavilions!
Education, Next Generation DesignThe students explain their work better than we do in this set of snazzy interviews filmed and edited by the ever-excellent Erica (thanks Erica!)
