Thanks to Steve, Lucy, and their family of nimble-fingered helpers we’ve built a scale mock-up of the pavilion, and Rich who’s taken some pretty darn atmospheric photos of it.
While pretty, this wasn’t all fun and games: lasercutting and assembling a 1:20 model using the same cutting pattern that we plan to use for the CNC routing and 1:1 build allowed us to do a spot of troubleshooting in advance of assembly.
Someone has been having too much fun on their weekends… We’ve started putting together a few physical models to test out the future of design pavilion concept both at 1:1 and at a smaller scale. More updates soon.
Great news, the first image of the forthcoming future of design pavilion in St James’s church garden, Clerkenwell, has been revealed! Thanks to everyone for their hard work in getting us to here, especially Steve, Annabel and Jamie the CGI guru.

After the dust has settled on a hectic weekend we’ve uploaded the photos and lecture slides from the workshop and crits. A huge thanks to all the team involved and to our camera women Erica Choi for documenting all the fun.

Congratulations to the 35 participating students – coming from 9 schools all over London – for their enormous effort over the weekend at the Future of Design workshops. Everyone was excellent in making a right old mess of AKTII‘s table tennis stadium breakout space during the lectures and workshops, followed by crits down the road on Grimshaw‘s bleachers.
Some really fantastic presentations and pavilion designs came out of the 7 teams; We’re all looking forward to working on the winning design ready for construction this May!
Registration has now closed for the Future of Design workshops this February. We’re really looking forward to welcoming the participants from many schools all over London in two weeks’ time – thank you to everyone who signed up!
Future of Design is an opportunity to develop on the success of the Pavilion Project at BSix this summer. We’ll be applying the same principles – of condensed interactive design workshops and building one of the pavilions ourselves – but with a larger and more diverse group of younger students, and on a public site.
The new academic year is underway which means lots of tutoring for the scalerule team. I’ve just got cracking on the Basil Spence project at Bath Uni which showcases the best in harmonious design between Architects and Engineers. I’ll post a few updates in due course but if you want some more general info check out:
