Well done to the UCL IDP students who presented some very impressive projects at the public display in UCL today, responding to the briefs we set them for four projects back in October.

Not content with having some free time we joined some of the big-shots of the engineering world at the inaugural IStructE Young Engineers Conference. The fantastic event aimed to inspire young engineers to take up the challenges of the future. We helped out setting a concept design challenge, getting teams to design a helical ramp. Someone has been having too much fun on their weekends… We’ve started putting together a few physical models to test out the future of design pavilion concept both at 1:1 and at a smaller scale. More updates soon.
Great news, the first image of the forthcoming future of design pavilion in St James’s church garden, Clerkenwell, has been revealed! Thanks to everyone for their hard work in getting us to here, especially Steve, Annabel and Jamie the CGI guru.

After the dust has settled on a hectic weekend we’ve uploaded the photos and lecture slides from the workshop and crits. A huge thanks to all the team involved and to our camera women Erica Choi for documenting all the fun.

The new academic year is underway which means lots of tutoring for the scalerule team. I’ve just got cracking on the Basil Spence project at Bath Uni which showcases the best in harmonious design between Architects and Engineers. I’ll post a few updates in due course but if you want some more general info check out:
After a weekend Heinz Isler would have been proud of, plans are progressing for the forth coming Archikids weekend. We’ll be running workshops teaching 5-11 year olds all about shell structures on the plaza outside 6 Bevis Marks. More photos are on the project page
